Surprise proposal love story under the Eiffel Tower lights

Surprise proposal love story under the Eiffel Tower lights. While I dislike late autumn and winter because the days are so short, there’s one huge benefit, and that’s that the lights of the Eiffel Tower come on earlier and a Paris surprise proposal with the Eiffel Tower lit is super easy to photograph. Now, granted, the photos of the Eiffel Tower lit are not going to be as bright and clear as if the surprise proposal was during the daylight hours. There will be some film type grain, and shadows. The photos will have more of a cinematic feel and will be darker, but very romantic.

In November and early December, the lights of the Eiffel Tower come on around 5:00 pm. Lloyd, who was visiting from the United States, wanted to propose to the love of his life, Amy, with a great view of the Eiffel Tower. I suggested the Eiffel Tower riverside location because it’s quite private usually, and the view of the Eiffel Tower simply cannot be beat. I arrived just before our meeting time and was approached by a couple. The man spoke to me, “are you here for Lloyd”? As it turned out, it was one of Lloyd’s friends, visiting from the Netherlands, and spending time together. Lloyd’s friends would help set up this particular surprise proposal by taking general tourist photos and videos, Amy had no idea what was about to happen.

Lloyd and Amy went nearer to the river bank (don’t worry, you can’t fall in, as there’s a slanted edge). I got into my favorite spot as Lloyd got down on one knee, with the beautifully illuminated Eiffel Tower behind him. Amy was so surprised, when Lloyd got up, they hugged and kissed and then I saw it. The signature blue box that could only be Tiffany. Lloyd presented Amy an exquisite and elegant diamond engagement solitaire. I was so taken with this ring I insisted on photographing the box with the ring inside, and Amy was nice enough to remove the ring so I could do that. Hey, a girl’s gotta dream, right? I have never received a gift from a Tiffany box, but someday maybe…or I’ll just buy myself a gift, even better, right?

We continued for just a little bit before the couples were off for an aperitif before a delicious French dinner at a Michelin restaurant. We went to the bridge of Bir Hakeim, one of my favorite spots for couples photography, and while we had to be patient and wait for the rush hour traffic to pass, the view from here, especially with the Eiffel Tower lit is just out of this world.

The next day I met Lloyd and Amy at the Louvre museum for their beautiful rainy engagement session. Check out their engagement session here.

I want to thank Lloyd for selecting me to capture his surprise proposal and his engagement, it was a joy to meet him and Amy too. Wishing them the most blessed life together!
