Paris surprise proposal at dusk for two Aussies

Paris surprise proposal at dusk for two Aussies. I love this time of year for Paris surprise proposals! It’s now nearing the end of autumn, the end of November, and soon we’ll be knee-deep in the holiday season. While it’s true we get a lot of rain this time of year, and your proposal is more than likely to be in the rain, it’s no worry because those Paris surprise proposals can be some of the most memorable.

But as luck would have it on this day, the sun was out and the temperatures were mild. Braydon and his girlfriend Anne has just arrived from Perth, Australia, some hours before. Their first visit to Paris, they also planned to visit Florence and Rome. Braydon wanted to add all the extras to his surprise proposal, so he booked a violinist (which I coordinated), champagne and two glasses, ordered his gallery in black and white, and for good measure, I picked him up a souvenir clear umbrella he can take on his travels with Anne. Their four days in Paris started off on a sunny and mild note.

This time of year, especially, the best place for a Paris surprise proposal is next to the Seine River. As the sun goes down just after 5:00 pm, as soon as the lights come on and it gets dark enough, the lights reflect off of the water, and it’s ridiculously beautiful. I arrived ahead of time, but saw a couple taking photos of each other riverside, and I bet that it was Braydon and Anne. Sure enough, a bit later, after I’d had time to get my camera out and the violinist arrived, Braydon approached me and asked if I could take a photo of them two of them with his cell phone.

A lot of clients get confused by this. Um, Karina, aren’t you a professional photographer? Why aren’t you going to take a photo with your camera?

This is just a scenario, which you can read more about here. It’s how we connect the day of, so you know it’s me, and I know it’s you. It’s also a way that I can ensure no tourists walk in front of you when you’re on one knee. It works like a charm. Anne was down for it because she loves photos. So I snapped a few couples photos on Braydon’s phone, gave the phone back to him, and went back to the wall where I waited.

It didn’t take him too long to spring into action. He asked Anne to marry him and got on one knee, as the violinist came from behind and started playing the most beautiful music that Braydon selected. When you add the violin to your surprise proposal, you’ll select your songs from a list or you can request one specially. After the proposal, everyone was thirsty, so it was time for some delicious French champagne, which was poured into two glasses, and we had a toast. Braydon added the champagne onto his package, and it’s a wonderful touch!

Champagne gone, and music completed, we had the proposal just a bit before the lights had come on, so we did a re-enactment of the proposal with the lights on. Photos with the lights on will yield pretty photos, but they’ll have more of a film look and will be shadowy. By film look, I mean they will have grain if you enlarge them, you’ll be able to see some grain, and I keep my subjects (you) darker, to set off the lights of the Eiffel Tower. If you’d like both sets of photos, best thing is to arrive before sunset, and if you love those darker photos with the lights of the Eiffel Tower on, we wait just a bit longer. It all depends on the season.

Great! I’m coming next summer, you think, would LOVE that!

Not so fast!

Summer in Paris it doesn’t get dark until 10:00 or 11:00 pm, so surprise proposals with the lights on can only be done in late autumn and winter. Sorry, I’m dedicated to my work but I’m not staying up until 11:00 pm to capture your proposal in summer (I’m sure you understand!).

After a bit, we walked over to a nearby bridge, the bridge of Bir Hakeim, which was super busy, but still had some great moments.

Braydon and Anne have just started a life adventure that will give them years of happiness, joy and fun. It all started in Paris!

Congratulations!

If you’d like to be like Braydon and Anne, and have your Paris surprise proposal expertly captured by a professional, personable and kind photographer, I’m your gal!
